Preparation
Critically analyse and evaluate the strategy of your chosen organisation over the last 3 to 5 years!
Students should select a UK Public Limited Company in which they are interested and confirm through various literature searches that enough research material is available to meet the objectives of this assignment.  Case studies, annual reports, newspaper and business journal articles will provide useful background material.
Identify the generic issues that have been likely to affect most industries and organisations, e.g. how did the financial crisis of 2007/8 affect your chosen organisation (economies and markets, etc)? Specific analysis and evaluation should be applied that addresses the strategic response to this.
Consider the following:

  1. Undertake a macro analysis where the various strategic theories are applied to the chosen organisation’s industry or market (showing an understanding of the module content) i.e. identify and analyse the different factors which affect the strategic environments of firms and industries.
  2.  Undertake a micro analysis where the various strategic theories are applied to the chosen organisation (showing an understanding of the module content) i.e. identify and analyse the different factors which affect the strategic environments of the selected organisation in the specific market chosen.
  3. Use terms and language which are comprehensible but which demonstrate academic sophistication and understanding along with academic underpinning through the use of relevant citations.
  4. Synthesize findings of fact supported by theoretical analysis.
  5. Use rational, balanced judgements and arguments in the evaluation.
  6. Provide a substantive bibliography and appropriateacademic referencing as evidence of wider reading and applied research.

Chapter headings may include:
Introduction – giving an overview of the research topic, the general line of enquiry, and the themes offered in the conclusion.
The Environment and Industry Analysis – including the macro, industry and market environments (applying the financial and market data available using the IT lab facilities).
The Organisation – a profile of the Organisation under analysis including: the market positions in the past and present, and how it has changed over the years in question, and any other relevant information relevant to the line of enquiry supported by the academic theory and models.
Organisational Analysis – exploring the corporate/business strategies employed, how they fit the respective environment, any issues/challenges faced and what the outcomes were supported by the academic theory and models.
Findings: Performance and Strategic Outcomes – drawing together the key points that you have identified for the organisation under scrutiny supported by the academic theory and models.
Conclusions – a critical assessment summary based on your analysis provided earlier (supported by academic theory as used in the detail above).
References – all cited resources should be fully referenced in accordance with APA guidance.
Note: You may wish to include several appendices to provide: information that is not essential to explain the findings, but that supports the analysis (especially repetitive or lengthy information); and, validates the conclusions or pursues a related point.  Sometimes excerpts from this supporting information (i.e. part of the data set) will be placed in the body of the report but the complete set of information (i.e. all of the data set) will be included in the appendix. Examples of information that could be included in an appendix include figures/tables/charts/graphs of results, statistics, questionnaires, transcripts of interviews, pictures, lengthy derivations of equations, maps, drawings, letters, specification or data sheets, computer program information.
