Students will submit a two-page double spaced APA style paper with a reference page critiquing the methods of a peer reviewed article found using the FDU online library system.
Critical reviews are systematic. They begin at the title and review each section until the reference list at the end. It will be useful for students to ask themselves the following questions. These questions are to get you thinking about the critique, but it is not mandatory to answer all of them:
What is the purpose and component of the article? Does it achieve this purpose?
Does the title clearly and concisely describe what the article is about?
Are the keywords informative and relevant?
Does the abstract explain the purpose of the paper? Does it explain why the research was carried out and what conclusions were reached?
Does the introduction help develop the background for the study?
Does the introduction give a firm sense of what was done in the study?
Does the introduction state the purpose and rationale for the study?
Does the literature review broad, yet focused (think upside down triangle)?
Does the literature review fairly represent opposing views?
Does the literature review state and use a guiding theoretical framework?
Do you have a clear idea of what the study tried to achieve?
Is there a clear rationale for the approach, methods, and/or instruments used?
Are the methods appropriate for the research question?
Was the collection of data appropriate for the research question?
What were ethical considerations for the research and the subjects?
Were there any ambiguous terms used?
Are the methods deemed reliable and valid?
Are limitations of the study discussed?
Were all data taken into account?
Do tables and graphs make data analysis clearer?
Are the most important results highlighted?
How practical, relevant, and useful are the results to practice?
Are there suggestions for future research?
Are all sources cited clearly?
Does the reference list include both seminal and contemporary literature?
