Television Critique
Write a critical essay in which you follow the first four steps of the critical process to critique an episode of a television show. You should choose an episode from one of the series listed below.
**Make sure your critique focuses on the ONE specific episode you watch.***
In general, your critique needs to answer two key questions—
1. Is the show a high quality show? Is it technically well done?
2. What is the cultural impact of the show? In what ways is the show culturally significant (or insignificant)?
To be complete, your essay needs to include each of the following:
Descriiption
Characterize the show. What kind of TV show is it? When does it air? And on what channel? Describe the main characters. Explain the plot of the show. Who do you believe to be the target audience?
Analysis
What specific aspects of the show contribute to its success or failure? How does it compare and contrast to similar shows?
Interpretation
What is the theme of the show? What message does it convey, intentional or not? How do the show’s elements work to convey that message? What values does this show cultivate?
Evaluation
Is this a good show? Offer your final opinion on its quality. In what ways does it impact popular culture? Is it ‘good” or “bad” for society?
Your critical essay should be about 500 words.
You need to type your essay and submit it online.
Your essay will be evaluated for how effectively you integrate the critical process, as well as, accuracy, insight, thoroughness, use of specific examples from the song, clarity, and mechanics.
