The ability to quickly read text, highlight important information, and write an effective abstract or a summary is extremely important in technical writing. Most documents in technical writing include a summary, an abstract, or both. While the executive summary is written in a simple language and is intended for a lay or a mixed audience, abstracts are usually for highly specialized audiences.
Abstracts are difficult to write since they contain all the significant points in a very condensed form. Usually, they are about a paragraph. A good strategy to follow is to identify the four different parts:
Introduction or Topic
Conclusion or Findings
Each section should merit no more than three sentences. Therefore, it is very important for you to read and reread the text at least two times, identify the major parts, and write a condensed abstract in a precise and accurate form. Remember, you need to distinguish between what is important and what is not. For the assignment, I have provided the text which consists of three pages. You will have to read and comprehend the text, identify the important parts, and write the abstract. Please do not try to copy words from the text. Write in your own words and edit carefully.
