The Assignment: Write a short autobiographical essay in which you will explore 2 of your identities through music. For each identity (race, gender, age, occupation, etc.) select one song or piece to illustrate it. For each piece, describe 3 musical characteristics to show how the piece connects to that particular identity. Musical characteristics can include lyrics, instrumentation, performer, rhythm, texture, etc.
Paper guidelines: your paper should be typed, 12-point font, double-spaced, and a maximum of 2 pages. Cite your songs and provide a link so we can listen to them. If lyrics are in a language other than English, please provide translation, if you are referencing it.

Paper includes two distinct identities (3 points)
Paper highlights three different musical elements for each piece (4 points)
Draws clear connections between musical features and identity (4 points)
Writing is clear and concise (2 points)
