The goal of this activity is to develop a campaign directed to families to bring attention to children’s health and nutrition.
– In your design, consider how to promote age-appropriate and culturally appropriate health and nutrition information to parents and families. Be mindful of families with linguistic differences.
– Choose an age group (infants, preschoolers, primary-age children, middle childhood, and adolescents) and a topic related to health, physical development, and nutrition of interest to families and which connects with topics in the classroom.
– Identify a topic or issue related to health and nutrition. Some possible topics include the following:
healthy snacks; preventing obesity; exercise and movement experiences; healthy and affordable menus for children; promoting physical development; promoting healthy eating habits; planning menus for children with special health needs; and others.
– Plan and prepare your campaign. Include the following:
Need and purpose for the campaign. Describe the reasons supporting the topic or issue addressed by the campaign.
Indicate how the topic/issue addresses or is linked to local state health policies.
Descriiption on how information and activities will benefit families and their children.
List some sample activities for families. Be mindful about the families’ socioeconomic and cultural realities.
Suggested resources for families and children. Make sure that resources for children are appropriate for the target age group.
Recommended resources for families and children. Includes materials that supports families who are speakers of languages their that English.
