You may be thinking, “Wel

The Importance for Diversity and Inclusion in theatre.
You may be thinking, “Well what exactly does she mean by diversity and inclusion?” Great question. I heard it phrased well recently. Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.
Step 1
Read the article, Color-Blind Casting vs. the Playwright’s Intent — OnStage BlogLinks to an external site.
As you read the article think about whether you connect with Anthony J. Piccione.
How do you feel about colorblind casting vs color conscious casting (see difference in paragraph below)
Color-Blind Casting advocates for casting the best actor for a part, regardless of race. Color-Conscious Casting advocates for not only casting the best actors in a role, but also being conscious of the story that is told by using actors of specific races in specific roles.
Step 2
After you have read the article and reflected on the initial questions, I want you to read the following quote and answer those questions (from Step 1 and two) in the discussion and respond to two peers’ discussion. Make sure you are writing in a way that expresses your views and is still respectful.
Explain why you think/feel a certain way about the article and the quote (keeping in mind the questions from step 1 and step 2) and feel free to give examples from your experience or the article.
Playwright Yasmina Reza, author of God of Carnage, once stated, “Theatre is a mirror, a sharp reflection of society. The greatest playwrights are moralists.”
Do you agree is disagree that theatre is or should be a mirror? why?
If we go with the idea that theatre is a mirror, then our stages should be as diverse as our community Think about the article that you just read. Why is it important to have diversity and inclusion in the stories that we as actors tell?
Your initial discussion must have a 100-word minimum. Each peer discussion must have a 50-word minimum.
