Thomas Moran was a key artist in the Hudson River School of the mid-to-late 19th century. Many of these artists traveled to and through Colorado, some as members of the famous federal surveys of the era. The Hudson River School achieved its zenith in its paintings and interpretations of the American West (although eastern art historians who can’t see west of the Hudson River would not agree with this assessment).
