For White Papers, keep the following in mind:
In research and development institutions, a “White paper” is a single page synopsis of a given subject. On a weekly basis, students will create a detailed WP for each OT book encountered this semester (Isaiah-II Chronicles). Each WP should briefly cover the following issues: author (if known) and background; date and historical background; a short textual outline (very important!); key ideas from the book; and key verses from the book. Each white paper should be a tight and full document (effectively utilizing most space on a single page) with the intention of including the most important info in an aesthetically appealing, and artistically strategic fashion.
Even though it is called a “White Paper”, this assignment is not meant to be just black text on a white page. This is not an essay and should not be presented in simple paragraph form. This is meant to be a teaching document that can be used for personal study, as a didactic outline, and as general reference material.
These WPs are meant to be a future resource to yourself and others, so make it your own! First and foremost, identify your ministry demographic and aim to communicate strategically to that group. There are some examples of really good aesthetic WPs in the week 1 learning activities. DO NOT make your white papers look like the example white paper given in the week 1 learning activities.
Make sure that the overall organization works best for your ministry environment.
Make sure to appropriately cover important content in the books including the theological progression and intertextuality. As a tip, don’t necessarily focus on just the popular texts. For example, while the creation narratives are important to the book of Genesis, this information only comprises 2 out of 50 chapters! This means that your white paper should not be overly weighted towards the creation narratives.
