Essay – Object Analysis (800-1000 words/10 points):

This is a complete, research-driven analysis of your selected object. This essay will investigate the imagery and subject matter of the object, and also place it within its historical context. The essay should seek to understand what the work meant to its original audience, the history of the iconography or its origins, the objects use or function, the social, cultural, and political setting of the work, and establish how the object relates to or reflects that context. You may also tell the story of the objects movement over timewhere it has been since it was madewhich can add an interesting dimension to its understanding. You may also format this essay as a critical analysis; one that analyzes the work through a critical lens like feminism, marxism, queer theory, postcolonialism, ecocriticism, disability studies, animal studies, or any other number of theories. See appendix for more details.

*To meet the minimum requirements this essay must; 1) be within the required word count excluding titles, headers, and citations; 2) provide adequate citations in MLA format (footnotes, endnotes, or parenthetic), and 3) contain college-level thinking, writing, and research.*
