You will explore the fundamental principles of management and their relationship to the modern workplace. The resources will focus on these principles and their relationship to the modern workplace environment and important issues frequently encountered by managers, including effective planning.

In this assessment, you will create either a fact sheet or infographic that describes how an effective manager behaves and makes plans.

Remember to use insights from the interactive experience to describe how a manager applying resilience could positively impact the success of the event or project.

Step 1: Choose a topic.

    • Tips:
      • An infographic is an image that shares information. The infographic can include numbers and text. Before thinking of ideas, you can look up infographics on the Internet to get ideas.
      • Infographics require using the fewest words possible to make your point. The visual design will be an important part of what you are communicatingit will replace some of the words youd use in a paragraph.
      • Text should be no smaller than a 10-point font. If you use images from an external source, check for copyrights and make sure to give credit to your source.

For this assessment, choose a time where you had to manage a specific event or project. This does not need to be in a business setting. For example, you could have led a social event, a project, or you can use your own work experience.

In your chosen format, describe characteristics effective managers should do as well as how they should behave. You will also describe the planning process that made this project or event successful.

In your assessment, include the following:

Create a paper or oral presentation that explains how a manager would take action in a situation.

A good manager plans ahead before starting a new project. They take time to get everything ready so the work goes smoothly. Managers need to be good at organizing things and leading people.

In today’s fast-changing business world, it’s important for managers to do both these jobs well. By looking at how managers organize and lead, we can learn what makes them good at their job. When managers understand these skills, they can help their teams do better work and reach their goals.

Create a paper or oral presentation that explains how a manager would take action in a situation.

Remember to use insights from the Breaking Down Big Tasks to Build Momentum activity to help describe how a manager should effectively plan.

  • Complete and submit the Time Management Exercise worksheet.

    This first assessment is all about time management because it’s a topic that’s important for adding school work to your daily schedule. It is also something we hear is a pain point from learners.Time management is an essential skill that evolves as we take on new tasks. Your first assessment is to evaluate how being a new learner can fit into your already busy schedule. You will then be able to review, reevaluate, and utilize these new time management skills/exercises for your educational, personal, and work endeavors.

    Gather any calendars, notebooks, or devices you currently use to plan and manage your time.

    • Step 1: Download and save the worksheet.
    • Step 2: Fill out the first section of the worksheet, the weekly schedule, that includes many of the things you typically did before attending college. Then, develop a practical timeframe that includes enough time for your coursework at Capella.
      • You should decide what activities have been part of your day in the past that need to be eliminated or reduced to accommodate your study time so you can achieve your career goal.
    • Step 3: Answer all nine questions after the schedule using full sentences where applicable. Make sure to complete all questions.

    PART 4

  • Write the first part of a paper by identifying the key elements of mission and vision statements, and what organizational structure would be ideal for your chosen organization.

    This assessment is the first part of three written assessments that build on each other. You will utilize the learned writing skills (POETS and APA) and apply the concepts to a real organization. You have learned about organizational structures, mission, vision, and code of ethics. Each of these concepts is a component of this assessment.You will start with just a few paragraphs and then continue to add content in the following two assessment. This allows you to gain feedback and make changes as you work toward putting everything together in the final assessment.

    • Choose a healthcare organization, such as the local community hospital, continuing care retirement community, the Red Cross, or something similar. (It can be something that interests you, where you work, or an organization you are familiar with.)
    • Locate the mission and vision (or values) statements for your chosen organization.

    For example, MD Anderson provides the following for their mission statement:

    • The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

    Additionally, they provide the following for their vision statement:

    • We shall be the premier cancer center in the world, based on the excellence of our people, our research-driven patient care and our science. We are Making Cancer History.

      • What are the mission and vision statements for your organization?
      • What type of organizational structure makes sense for this organization and why?
      • Identify the key components included in your organization’s code of ethics. Then write a paragraph detailing the ethical principles these components represent. Are there any others you think are missing that are commonly found in a code of ethics and why would they be important for your chosen organization?
      • Include the references where you found the above information.
    • Step 3: Write 34 paragraphs using POETS.
      • In the first paragraph, identify the key elements of mission and vision statements and include what those statements are for your chosen organization.
      • In the next paragraph, identify what organizational structure would be ideal for your chosen organization and why using the readings.
      • Finally, after identifying the key components of your organization’s code of ethics, write a paragraph explaining the ethical principles commonly found in an organizational code of ethics and why they are important for your chosen organization.

    Challenge: Attempt APA for your references. You will need to complete the APA citations for the final part of the assessment (in Assessment 4), so include them now and get feedback!

    This is the last portion of the assessment, where you will put everything together and add the final components.The full paper was broken into three parts to allow you to focus on smaller segments, receive feedback, and apply what was learned throughout our time together. As you continue at Capella, you will complete full papers as individual assessments. The goal is for you to take what you learned about business concepts and how to build a paper, gather evidence, utilize feedback, and practice APA style each time you have an assessment.

    Locate the paragraphs you wrote for the earlier assessments.Scenario: Your chosen healthcare organization has determined that its mission statement needs to be updated accurately to reflect its strategy for the upcoming year, so you are forming a small team to work through this problem. Which functions do you want to select team members from? Why? What ethical principles does your team need to consider when making updates to a mission statement?
