You are the head of sales for a new consumer electronic device manufacturer, selling to retail chain stores and directly to consumers. Until now, your sales force has been handling all calls and emails for technical products, delivery information, complaints, and customer problems. Your sales team is missing opportunities with large resellers because these calls and emails take up too much of their time. You just got approval to set up a 6-person customer service department to perform those non-sales functions. You will need to hire a supervisor plus 5 customer service employees.
From your study of the DISC personality trait model, you know that different people react differently in situations. You think that might help you with your team hiring decisions. You happen to be a High D type. You know that sometimes you make quick but wrong decisions. You also hate getting bogged down with details. A team of people with different personality traits might be able to cover some of your shortcomings and be good at dealing with customers.
Question – For this assignment, build your customer service department. What traits would you like to see in each of the 6 people you hire and why?
