You will complete this current event discussion by finding and reading a current news article (cannot be published before the year 2023) that discusses your chosen topic from a reputable general news or science news website (ex. npr.org, latimes.com, nytimes.com, cnn.com, sciencenews.org, sciencedaily.com, scientificamerican.com, etc.). I highly recommend that you use the methods described in this Scientific American article or the CRAAP test to make sure that you are viewing high-quality sources of information.
Remember, your topic must be one that we covered/are covering on the exam outline that we are currently discussing. You must then write about what is listed below:
1. The title and active web link of your article so that we can click on it and be directed to your article. Again, make sure your article is from a reputable news website and clearly states the date that it was published (cannot be before the year 2023). Your assignment will not be accepted if it does not include an active web link to the article with the required information on it or if your article is not from a news website.
2. A summary of article: Using your own words summarize the key points (address the five W’s: what, where, when, who and why) of the article so that the reader has a clear understanding as to the scope of the article. Do not just copy statements straight from the article. This is plagiarism. You will receive a zero on your assignment and be reported to the Student Life Office if you plagiarize.
3. What biology topic does this article reference? The article that you have chosen needs to correspond with a topic that we have covered on the Exam Outline that we are currently discussing. Clearly state how your article is related to the topic.
4. How this article affects you personally: All events affect us in some way. Be creative and open your thoughts to how current events are related to you (e.g. socially, ethically, emotionally, economically, etc.)
5. How this current news will affect future generations: Make a prediction about how lives will be affected 20 – 30 years from now by this current event.
