Your assignment this week is to read The Old Testament selections, and The Illiad. I suggest you focus on Genesis primarily when reading the Old Testament and Illiad Lecture Notes when reading The Illiad. Look at the the Bible, the Old Testament in particular, not as the word of God, but as a piece of literature for this discussion. What literary themes do you see that might be present in other works of literature? Look at literary devices such as metaphor and tone to help. What about plot and story development? What parallels do you see between the Old Testament and novels or short stories you have read?
