This is your last poem for the semester (that will be workshopped). We talked a lot about the “objective correlative” today. As an approach, It sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. Basically, the way we see things (objects, the world) is always influenced by our emotional state. Our goal with this poem is to PAINT that emotional situation with language by we describe objects and events in a manner that imparts a VISual and SENSUAL impression. Don’t overthink it!! Think hard on how you feel and what you SEE and SENSE. Trust your instincts.
An aproach to this assignment (if you need it!):
1. Locate and identify your emotion.
2. Pick the place or object you are going to describe.
3. Let the descriiptions do the work of telling your story.
I want you to also incorporate TWO monetary items (receipts) in whatever way you like into the poem.
This poem can be whatever length you like, and it is up to you choose the form and line lengths.
HAVE FUN WITH IT.
