For your final assignment, you will consider technology in the workplace and how you as a manager will react to its presence and adoption. Let’s get theoretical. Imagine that you are the CEO of a rather large consumer electronics firm. For example, you work for Siemens or Bosch. You are presented with the opportunity to buy in on a new, but undeveloped application for cell phones that will revolutionize their data carrying technology. However, the capital expenditures needed to shepherd the technology to market are significant.
How would you manage the adoption? Would you try to take a lead position in managing this technology, or wait until other firms took the risks? Would you make or buy the hardware needed? How would this high-end technology match your corporate culture? Would you develop it in a “skunkworks” situation? Be creative, but back up your opinions with examples from the book and the business press.
