As a reminder, you do not have to answer both questions. You need to answer at least one of them in one of your posts. And you must create TWO SEPARATE POSTS to receive full credit for this assignment. So if you answer one of my questions in your first post, your second post can be either 1) a response to the other question; 2) a discussion of another aspect of the question you answered in your first post; or 3) a reply to a classmate in which you make a comment or ask a question about their post. There are more instructions for Discussion Forums in the syllabus.
Aristotle believes one must be morally virtuous in order to be happy—i.e., in order to achieve eudaimonia. Do you agree? Explain why or why not.
According to Aristotle, one who has practical wisdom (phronesis) knows what to do in an ethical dilemma situation. This includes knowing what to do when two or more virtues conflict with each other. Discuss a situation when this happened to you. Which virtues were in conflict? Explain how two or more virtues were in conflict and how you decided what to do. Was one virtue more important than the other(s) in the situation–or did you compromise both virtues to the same extent? There is a list of virtues at the bottom of p. 490 of the Chaffee text–but you can also discuss other moral virtues not from this list. If you prefer, instead of a personal experience, you could provide an example of a situation involving information technology when this may occur. In that case, discuss how you think the IT professional or user should resolve the ethical conflict among virtues.
