MAIN DETAILS:
1. Go to Rocks Identification Tables (Click on this link)
2. Study the formation, properties and profiles of the igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Use your text book and other sources in addition to this website.
3. Write a paragraph (about 1/3 page) describing the basic formation of each of the three types of rocks: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary. (total 3 paragraphs).
4. Write in a word document (preferably in a table) the name, type of rock (Igneous, Metamorphic, or Sedimentary), uses, grain size, and other (use your judgment and mention at least one other identifying property of that rock) of the following TEN rock samples (please keep them in this order):
Basalt, Granite, Pumice, Obsidian, Marble, Slate, Gneiss, Limestone, Shale, Sandstone.
5. Which type of rock do you see the most around you in the outcropping rocks in the hillsides when you are driving on a highway in Pittsburgh area: Igneous, Metamorphic, or Sedimentary? You must confirm your answer by using at least one outside resource.
(If you are not from the Pgh. area, write the specific name and location of your area if you are not referring to rock outcrops from the Pittsburgh area.)
