One of the Reflective exercises in Module 5 required you to investigate what recommendations for antenatal testing for infections are required by your nearest large obstetric hospital. Another required that you consider such testing through the lens of the WHO criteria for valid screening tests. You should revisit this material at this point.
The Board of your local obstetric hospital has been considering whether the present recommendations for screening for infections (not only STIs) in the antenatal clinic require review.
You have been requested to write a piece that includes a short briefing paper and an executive summary totalling 3000. The division of which is up to you (traditionally approximately 2000 words was for the briefing paper and the remaining 1000 words for the executive summary).
The briefing paper should address the current evidence for the value of the tests presently recommended by the hospital.
You have also been requested to provide an executive summary, attached to the front of your document, giving your recommendations as to the routine antenatal microbiological tests which should be included following the review and your reasons for their inclusion.
You may of course suggest supplementary tests for women identified at particular risk provided you clearly identify the criteria for such testing.
Submission note: Please submit the Briefing Paper as Part one (30 marks), and the Executive Summary as Part 2 (20 marks) IN ONE DOCUMENT.
Note: Resubmissions are allowed before the due date. Turnitin similarity report will be generated immediately when submitting prior to due date, but it takes 24 hrs to generate after 3 submissions.
