This semester, we will be working on a thematic assignment, where you will choose a theme related to biological anthropology to explore more in depth. This will be a multi-part assignment, with different due dates and point values for each component. This first part is worth 10 points.
For the first part, you will be selecting a topic for your thematic assignment. You will choose from one of the four topics described below.
- Genetic testing (you can choose either testing as health predictor or for tracing your ancestry)
- The future of human evolution. Are we still evolving?
- Human fossil record and evolution. If you choose this, you will focus on a specific recent fossil discovery related to human evolution.
- Homo sapiens migration out of Africa. This topic will focus on the settlement of early modern humans in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America.
- Latest research on Non-human primates (you can choose either primate conservation or primate intelligence/language)
You do have the option of selecting a different topic from the ones listed above, but you will need to get it approved by me. The topic must be one related to biological anthropology.
- Create a modifiable text document. It can be a Word doc, Google doc, or Mac Pages. Save this document. For each component of the assignment, you will be adding to and submitting this same document.
- Choose one of the five themes listed above and explain why you chose it. Come up with two questions that you might like to explore further. You do not need to do any research on the topic yet.
- Upload your document and submit.
