Discuss a local hazardous materials incident that occurred within your community in the last 10 years. What mode of transportation was involved? What was the hazardous material involved, and how did the emergency response team handle the situation?

ZACHARY;
A few years ago dump trucks were hauling asbestos containing material to the landfill. I do not remember the cause but the truck had tipped over and this caused the asbestos material to be released. Asbestos is a carcinogen and can be very hazardous to your health. There are two good things about this incident though. One, the response team handled the situation quickly and the weather was very cooperative that day. Asbestos is a fiber and can stay suspended in the air for 72 hours and sometimes longer. Luckily it was not windy that day. Clean up crews quickly were on the scene and cleaned up the mess. Personal air samples were taken on workers to ensure that they were not over exposed. The second good thing is that this incident was on a haul rode between the landfill and the site so the incident was not on public land, road, nor around any civillians.

Discuss what you believe are some major risk factors for workplace violence. Although I am grateful to say I have never experienced work place violence personally, I have seen it happen at past companies. One incident I remember very vividly is two individuals that were forced to work together even though they could not get along for anything. This eventually came to a head and they ended up in a fist fight in the middle of the jobsite. I will say that neither of these individuals were very giving in efforts to resulve the conflict, but the management wasn’t helpful either. It was known there was tension betweenn the two and the supervisor kept assigning them to work together, maybe thinking they would work through it, I’m not sure. But it didn’t end very well. In my field tempers flare easily. We work in extreme conditions and some days completey exhausted and it is very easy to lose sight of your perspective and get aggitated. When this happens, and others are just as aggitated as you are, tensions get high. Stress, exhaustion, and fatigue I believe are extreme factors for work place violence to occur. I think as management you need to have a good understanding of the attitudes and atmosphere of the jobsite. If tensions start to develop, have everyone step back  and take an extra break for a moment. Or maybe move the individual who is getting worked up to another job for the day as a means of rest and escape. I’m sure there are many other reasons for workplace violence, but I personally feel these are the most abundant ones in my line of work.

Partnerships and networking for the local school-district throughout the community of Long Beach is important. School administrators have an obligation to demonstrate to their staffs that respect is earned through actions and behaviors. The overuse of terminology that is unknown to the public creates an image that the educator is unapproachable and unable to communicate effectively. Administrators networking to build support for the school and its programs benefits all parties. Relationships with all stakeholders allow for accurate information to be shared with teachers and parents with written consent. Increase parental and community involvement, participation, and attendance at school functions is needed for all parties to be involved in community partnerships and networking. It is important to inform all community members of the important roles that the school has in improving the overall community (Fiore, 2016).
Regularly communicating with the public in terms that are appropriate to the audience will have the opposite effect. The school leader at Woodrow Wilson High School have demonstrated the understanding by creating written communications that are free of jargon and appropriate to their intended audience through advertisements (Fiore,2016). Through advertising school administrators and community members are able to network and are able to organize on a regional level. I would organize networking on a regional level through community by showcasing the many educational endeavors that students and staff are engaged in at the school not only athletics. I would organize the networking on a state-wide level with first starting small with fundraising i.e. car washes, raffles, and basketball games.

It is a common location for senior citizens to spend the winter months. They are often called “snowbirds”—they migrate south to escape the freezing cold temperatures and the snow and ice. Every year, the health officials, in McAllen, see an increase in patients who are admitted to the hospital due to heart-related health issues and an increase in heart-related deaths. The McAllen health officials want to address these heart-related issues before a senior citizen is admitted to the hospital or worse. They are considering developing a screening program that would evaluate the senior citizens for heart-related health issues. What elements should the health officials consider including in their screening program?
Screening is the presumptive identification of unrecognized disease or defects by the application of tests, examinations, or other rapidly applied procedures (Friis & Sellers, 2021). Identifying the elements of effective screening programs would provide McAllen senior citizens with a proactive approach to identifying and treating their heart-related health issues.

For this assignment, consider the role, responsibility, and perspective of the criminal justice administrator (i.e., police chief or sheriff) in your municipality. You are tasked with identifying the plan and budget for the agency that accounts for threats of domestic terrorism.
To accomplish this, you will need to research your local (i.e., city, county, or state) law enforcement agency and the applicable fusion center to determine the connection that exists between budget allocation and the threat of terrorism. Use this information to analyze the threats that your agency plans and prepares for, and determine how training and response to these threats are budgeted. Most law enforcement agency budgets and fusion center budgets are public record and are easily obtained online; however, you may need to do some deeper research to obtain all of the information needed for this assignment.
Your case study should address the items below.
1) Identify your location and the law enforcement agency that you selected.
2) Discuss the terrorist or homeland security threats that apply to your area and how they are specifically addressed through department policy, procedures, and training.
3) Examine the role of the law enforcement administrator or leader (e.g., sheriff, police chief) in protecting the community from a terrorist incident. Address his or her potential concerns regarding the safety of the community and his or her officers in a terrorist incident.

6) Finally, take into consideration everything you have learned in this course about the role and responsibilities of a criminal justice administrator, the value of community policing, and the importance of the agency leadership having a positive influence on personnel and policy. With this in mind, propose two changes to the current way in which the threat of terrorism is handled and budgeted for in your local agency. Support your recommendations with a strong argument and evidence.
