A hands on review–I expect your application of concepts review to be approximately 2 – 3 pages; to include references from the APUS Library system (failure to include such references will detract from your grade on the assignment), and that the paper be written in proper grammar/spelling. The intention of this assignment is to apply the concepts to real world situations. Write well–Do your best work.
Use and refer to all the concepts in our readings as well as the APUS library this week to effectively answer this question. Be sure to cite your work!
Southwest Airlines: Staying Ahead in the Pricing Game
This assignment examines why Southwest Airlines was by all measures the most successful airline in the U.S. Southwest had devised a business model based on low costs and low prices. But that model also included very reliable and personable service. With such a winning combination, its no wonder that Southwest consistently did what no other airline company could: it turned a profit.
When something works, you stick with it. Southwest did just that, changing its strategy very little. But all good things come to an end. As market conditions began to change, it became very apparent that Southwest would not be able to maintain its advantage based on the same model it had been employing. So in 2004, Gary Keller, the newly crowned CEO, made some very significant changes to Southwest’s game plan.
This case outlines that nature of Southwest original business plan as well as the changes implemented during and after 2004. In both cases, the focus is on how Southwest implemented pricing policy. The contrast provides an excellent opportunity for students to consider whether or not the changes are changes in the right direction.
1. What has been Southwest’s traditional pricing strategy? Why has this pricing strategy been so successful throughout the airline’s first three decades?
2. What values do airline customers-both business and leisure travelers-seek when they buy air travel tickets? Has Southwest done a better job than competitors of meeting the needs of these air travelers? In what ways?
3. What internal and external factors affect airline pricing decisions? What impact are these factors now having on airline pricing and profitability?
4. What is Southwest’s current pricing strategy? Does his strategy differentiate Southwest from its competitors? Is the strategy sustainable?
5. What marketing recommendations, including pricing recommendations, would you make to Southwest as it moves into the next decade?

1. Should the government step in and set minimum price levels? Discuss the consequences of your answer.
2. You’ve heard of a monopoly, but have you ever heard of a monopsony? A monopsony involves one powerful buyer and many sellers. The buyer is so powerful that it can drive prices down. An example is Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer. Wal-Mart’s power allows it to get the lowest possible prices from its suppliers. Similarly, wine-making giant E. & J. Gallo has so much power buying grapes that growers have to concede to the wine maker’s demands for lower prices.
a. Is it fair that a buyer can exert so much power over a supplier? Are there any benefits to consumers? Why or Why not?
b. Explain the differences among styles, fashions, and fads and give an example of each.
3. Name and describe the five stages of the product life cycle. Identify a product class, product form, or brand that is in each stage.

Scenario
The healthcare industry continues to face many challenges such as rising costs, consumer prices, prescription costs, lost revenue, mergers, and acquisitions. Most organizations are trying to address these barriers by implementing quality improvement strategies. You are about to graduate from college and are looking to land a job in the healthcare industry. After several weeks of research, networking, and submitting job applications, you receive a call from a talent acquisition specialist with Testing Health, Inc. After the initial phone interview, she tells you how impressed she is with your resume, skills, and knowledge, and so she would like to move forward with the next steps in the hiring process.
She informs you that the next step will be to provide the hiring manager an opportunity to view your knowledge and understanding of strategic planning and marketing. You have been given a week to prepare a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover narration. You will provide the talent acquisition specialist with the presentation via email, and she will forward it to the hiring manager for review.
To prepare your strategic plan and marketing presentation you will need to review the website of a company of your choosing within the healthcare industry (M Health Fairview in Minnesota is the company). You will review the about page, mission, vision, services they provide, their target audience, any news or current mergers and acquisitions, and their last quarterly report. Based on your review, identify a mock, quality-improvement focus area. You will create a PowerPoint presentation outlining a 3-year strategic plan and marketing strategy based on your identified focus area, which may include adding or eliminating services, products, or staff for the company you researched.
Instructions
Develop a 3-year strategic plan and marketing strategy using PowerPoint with a voiceover narration that includes the following:
A Strategic Plan that includes the following components:
The company’s current mission and vision statements
Create a flowchart to describe the remaining components

If I was a manager at a Brick-and-Mortar store of my choosing, I would choose Walmart. With the outbreak of the Coronavirus, there are a lot of precautions that is needed to keep a store of that magnitude running and ensuring the safety of its customers. With the task of keeping customers during this pandemic, using Pricing and Placement, a lot of factors will have to be considered.
For using pricing, I would suggest offering free pick up of online orders for all customers and free delivery for new customers who sign up on online @walmart. Com. By offering free pick up, it will re-assure out loyal customers and new customers that we are taking the pandemic serious and supporting anyone who does not feel comfortable shopping inside our store. We want to make sure that you still receive your Walmart products without having to compromise your safety. For any new customers, getting a chance to have their products delivered for free will also send the same message and a way for us to increase our customers and online shoppers when most businesses maybe suffering during the pandemic.
When using Placement, by having our products available online, in store and delivered to your home during a Pandemic, will help to keep our loyal customers and increase our new customer count due to the variety of products that we order.
