Due Dates: This is a Two-Week long Project
Mandatory Progress Check-in due = 9/25
Final Drawing due = 10/2
For our first progress check in on 9/26 have at least the contour line drawing of your shadows and highlights of your drapery finished, and show some progress on beginning to shade the shadows, midtones and highlights of the drawing. Please upload a photo of your drawing progress and reference photo.
Project Description: The objective of this project is to create the illusion of voluminous drapery using the full value scale rendered in charcoal. Please also be mindful of creating a dynamic composition through value pattern and negative space, as well as depicting naturalistic proportions.
You will begin this project by taking a picture of yourself under a white bedsheet under a single light source. You will use this photo as a reference for your drawing. If you cannot do this on your own at home, I have provided some references you may use on canvas under the drapery module.
You may crop the proportions of your reference photo to your choosing but the drawing must be a minimum of 10” x 15” with at least a 1” border.
You will create a drawing of yourself as a “ghost” using charcoal, giving utmost attention to the values of the drapery. You should employ the entire value scale, from highlights to darkest shadows. Your background may be simplified to basic tones.
Materials: charcoal, conte pencil, Drawing Pad, tape, ruler, eraser, xacto, kneaded eraser, charcoal, blending stubs, chamois
Dimensions: a minimum of 10” x 15” with at least a 1” border.
Grading Rubric for entire project:

2. Your use of value pattern to create a dynamic composition. (35% of grade)
3. Your attention to naturalistic proportions (20% of grade)
4. Your craftsmanship: Borders, skillful use of tools (10% of grade)
