Description Essay Prompt

Write a description essay that includes a thesis statement (select your topic from the list below). Make sure your essay is well-developed and organized (contains an introduction with a thesis statement, it could be implied, but if you choose to imply it, make sure it is clear), multiple body paragraphs that support the thesis statement, and a conclusion paragraph that provides closure).

  • This essay is worth 50 points
  • Your essay must be written in MLA Format, and it must be about 3 pages (double-spaced).
  • 4th page Work Cited (if necessary). If you are obtaining information from another source such as: book, magazine, AI, internet, and/or database YOU MUST CITE!
  • BE MINDFUL WHEN USING AI! NO PLAGARISM IS ALLOWED!

MLA Formatting Requirements:

  • Double-space your writing (skip a line).
  • Header on the upper left-hand side: Include your name, the course title, section number, your instructors name, the assignment title, and the date (only on first page). The date is listed in this order: Day, Month, Year without any commas (Example: 16 August 2021).
  • Header on the upper right-hand side: Write your last name and the page number (on each page).
  • Indent half an inch at the beginning of each paragraph.
  • You may include a title for your essay, but that is not required for this essay.

Options for Description Essay

  • Describe a memorable experience and explain why it was memorable.
  • Describe someone you admire and explain why you admire that person.
  • Describe someone who has helped you a lot and explain how they helped you.
  • Describe your favorite childhood possession and explain why it was your favorite.
  • Describe your favorite food and explain why it is your favorite.

Note: Although all prompts ask you to describe and explain, focus your essay on your descriptions. Your explanation can be part of your thesis statement. For instance, if my essay focuses on describing my cousin, someone who helped me a lot last year, my thesis could be something like, My cousin Christinas words of encouragement and advice throughout the pandemic inspired me to stay positive and keep growing personally and professionally. That statement explains how my cousin helped me, but the essay would not focus on how I grew personally and professionallyit would focus on describing her.
