I need a rough draft essay about Anne Sexton’s “Cinderella.”. Please use the instructions below to write the essay. I also included my discussion post from last where where we had to discuss what poem we planned on using.
Last weeks Discussion post:
For my Core Assessment Essay, I’m considering analyzing Anne Sexton’s “Cinderella.” This poem takes a familiar fairy tale and transforms it into a thought-provoking narrative. One quote that intrigues me is, “Her father had died, / her stepmother and sisters were treacherous / and she lay in a kind of cinderella dust / somewhere in the cellars of the king’s house.” This depiction of Cinderella as trapped in the metaphorical “cinderella dust” presents an opportunity to explore themes of oppression and resilience.
I’m inclined to explore how Sexton reinterprets Cinderella as a symbol of female empowerment and the struggles women face in a patriarchal society. While my argument is not fully formed, I believe “Cinderella” offers a wealth of material for analysis, allowing me to delve into feminist literary theory and the reimagining of traditional narratives.
