Part 1
Safety Assessment: Please visit a pediatric healthcare facility (hospital, clinic, or pediatric unit) and conduct a safety assessment using the following questions:
- Are visitors permitted to visit when the parents are not present?
- Provide a brief summary of the visitation policy for situations where parents are not present.
- Is there an agency policy set up for the visitation of this age group?
- Obtain information on any specific policies or guidelines in place for the visitation of pediatric patients, including any age-specific considerations.
- What environmental controls are in place to prevent a toddler from leaving the nursing unit?
- Describe the physical measures and protocols in place to prevent toddlers from exiting the nursing unit unsupervised.
- Is there an armband alarm system that is in place?
- Provide details about any armband alarm system implemented to enhance the safety of pediatric patients.
- How is the room layout promoting safety?
- Assess the layout of pediatric patient rooms and identify features or arrangements that enhance safety.
- What items are within the childs reach?
- List items within the child’s reach in the patient room. Include any interactive or educational materials.
- Identify at least 3 items that should not be within this childs reach.
- Specify three items that may pose a safety risk if accessible to the child.
- Is there a Falls Assessment for this age group?
- Inquire about any specific falls assessment tool or protocol used for pediatric patients. Provide details if available.
Part 2
Analysis and Recommendations: Based on your findings, write a detailed report summarizing your assessment, including strengths and areas for improvement. Make recommendations for any changes or enhancements that could further promote the safety and well-being of pediatric patients in the facility. Provide a minimum of 2 references to support your information.
Note: Ensure that you respect the confidentiality and privacy of the healthcare facility and its patients during your assessment. If any sensitive information is encountered, refrain from including it in your report.
