Weekly Discussion 2 – How Do You Make Decisions

Weekly Discussion 2 – How Do You Make Decisions?

Good managers strive to make structured, well thought-decisions. In our readings this week, we learn about the Rational Decision Making Process, and its limitations. Be sure you have completed the Decision Making Style Assessment (in Connect) to help you understand how you tend to make decisions. You will use the information here to help you complete this week’s discussion.

Instructions:

  1. In your initial post (by Wednesday), respond to the following:
    1. Self-awareness – tell us what you learned about your decision-making style from the assessment.
    2. Do you agree with the results? Share a specific example of a time you made a decision that fits your style. (Work, on a team, academic, personal life.)
    3. Decision Making – think of a time whan you made a difficult decision. Which of the four stages felt the hardest for you to do well? Why? What would you do differently now that you have knowledge about this four-stage process? Be specific here.
  2. For your replies ( by Sunday), find at least two people to interact with. You might compare their decision style (or a challenge) with yours. Or, you could suggest a strategy or habit that could help them improve their decison making. Keep in mind the course requirements on meaningful discussion.

Pro-Tips: Be sure to review the requirements for participation in the syllabus. Management classes have different requirements than other classes. You are required to be in this (and all weekly discussions) on two different days. I like to underline and italicize words/phrases that are important to the assignment. They are the relevant Management concepts to the assignment. You will see throughout the course. Make it a point to familiarize yourself with these concepts by reviewing the relevant module and professor discussion information. You’ll need to apply the concept in your response. If you would like more information on how to do this, see the page in the Getting Started Module.

Posts and replies should be complete thoughts, add value, and be written using College English. They should also contain examples and/or reference to the text/lecture where appropriate. Be sure to check back regularly and answer any questions posed to you. See the course syllabus for the quantity requirements and for more details. You won’t have access to others’ posts until you post in the forum.

AI Use: Not permitted. I expect thoughts and writing to be solely yours. Content and format of a post/reply that resembles AI will result in a zero-pause in grading, and require a meeting with me.

The course and college academic integrity policies apply to all submissions. I expect the work submitted here to be your own, and not that of other sources such as the text, internet, homework sites, artificial intelligence, or other individuals. When you adhere to the academic integrity policies, you ensure that your achievements are a true representation of your skills and abilities. Hard work now helps ensure your future success. I look forward to reviewing your work and providing helpful feedback!
