Main Post: In Week 4, you were asked to think about a research topic that interests you within your chosen field. Over the next number of weeks, you will gradually build an argumentative essay related to this topic. In preparation for the essay, respond to the following questions.
- Its important to ask yourself questions prior to conducting research so that you dont research your topic blindly. What questions are you asking yourself as part of your research process? If youre not asking yourself questions, what questions do you think you should be asking?
- What is your preliminary research question (i.e., the question you’re going to answer in the form of an argumentative essay)?
- What is your working thesis statement (i.e., your preliminary thesis statement)? It must be a topic that is debatable.
- Using the two sources you found last week (and any additional sources you may have found since then), create APA-formatted references for each source. You may create a References page on MS Word if you so choose, or you may post the references within the discussion post. We will soon cover APA style in-depth, but try your best to format the references using the resources provided.
Response Posts: Respond to TWO peers. In a minimum of 150 words, answer the following questions:
- What other questions do you think your peer could/should ask that they havent already?
- Explain whether you feel your peers’ research questions do or do not meet the 5 criteria for an effective research question. What recommendations would you make to strengthen their question?
- Do you feel that your peers working thesis is debatable? Does the thesis seem complete, clear, and well-composed? Ensuring that your comment is respectful, suggest a way your peer can strengthen their thesis.
- Are the two references formatted properly? What might your peer need to modify so that the reference is formatted correctly?
